WHY COME TO MEDELLIN?

Why come to Medellín?

Because we have “Plaza Mayor”, a complex which houses the International Conventions Center (with a divisible capacity for 3200 people), the Trade Show Hall (a covered exhibition area set in over 12.000 square meters), the Metropolitan Theater (1,500 seats) and the Pies Descalzos Park.

Plaza Mayor was inaugurated in May 2005, and is part of the strategy to turn Medellín into a world-class destination hosting trade shows, congresses, conventions and events, and offering its visitors all of the elements needed to conduct successful events. (See www.plazamayor.com.co).

Because Medellín currently has a consolidated calendar of international trade shows and events. The city has major showcases of the pillar sectors of our competitiveness strategy: Energy, construction, textiles – clothes manufacturing, food industry and gastronomy, and logistics and transportation. Trade shows that are gaining international recognition where year after year buyers, journalists, and visitors from all over the world, meet and are part of an agenda that cannot be missed.

Because our city’s events are novel, attractive and filled with joy
; and enable those that live in Medellín to show their potential as hosts. The two most important events are the “Flowers Fair” during the month of August, with an impressive flower bearer’s parade that is a tribute to a race of farmers who carry and display works of art on their backs, and the “Christmas Fair”, more than 22 million light bulbs turning into dreamlike images to decorate the streets and Christmas nights. (See www.medellinconventionbureau.com).

Because of our cultural wealth
; the city has the largest collection of works in the world by Master Fernando Botero. (See www.museodeantioquia.org).

In addition, we have the Medellin Network of Music Bands which is formed by 3,500 poor youngsters from 26 neighborhoods of the city. The 1500 most talented youngster of the network are part of an orchestra that includes a choral group.
